Greyhound Racing Ireland Advised to Stay Silent on New Zealand’s Dog Racing Ban
Greyhound Racing Ireland (GRI) has been advised by its PR consultants to refrain from commenting on New Zealand’s recent decision to ban greyhound racing by 2026.
The ban was instated due to concerns over high injury rates among dogs.
In internal discussions, GRI sought guidance on how to respond to media inquiries about the New Zealand ban, particularly following a similar decision in Wales.
GRI’s PR advisers warned that speaking on the matter would force them to address issues beyond their knowledge, advising that “once you are explaining, you are losing.”
